Welcome to GutCheck ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive your email address and basic profile information from Apple to create your account. We do not store your Apple ID password.

Health Profile: You provide information about your digestive health conditions (IBS, GERD, LPR) and specific trigger sensitivities (e.g., lactose, garlic, spicy foods, high fat, carbonation, alcohol) to personalize your food analysis results.

Food Data: When you analyze food, we collect the text descriptions or images you provide, along with the AI-generated analysis results and scores.

Save your analysis history for future reference
Improve the accuracy of our analysis service

4. AI-Powered Analysis & Third-Party Data Sharing

GutCheck uses OpenAI's API, a third-party artificial intelligence service, to analyze food items for safety regarding IBS, GERD, and LPR conditions.

4.1 What Data Is Shared with OpenAI

When you use the scan or text analysis feature, the following data is sent to OpenAI's servers:

Food photos you capture or select from your photo library
Food text descriptions you type (up to 500 characters)
Your health conditions (IBS, GERD, LPR selections)
Your trigger sensitivity settings (e.g., lactose, onion, garlic, wheat, beans, spicy, high fat, carbonation, alcohol sensitivity levels)

We do NOT send your email address, name, Apple ID, or any account identifiers to OpenAI.

4.2 Purpose of Data Sharing

This data is shared solely for the purpose of generating your personalized food safety score and ingredient analysis. No other use is made of your data by OpenAI.

4.3 OpenAI's Data Handling

Data retention: OpenAI's API does not retain data submitted through its API after processing your request. Your food images and text descriptions are not stored by OpenAI beyond the time needed to generate a response.
Model training: OpenAI does not use data submitted through its API to train or improve its AI models.
Data protection: OpenAI provides protections for data processed through its API that meet or exceed the standards described in this privacy policy. For more information, see OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

4.4 Your Consent & Controls

Before your first food analysis, the app requests your explicit consent to share data with OpenAI. You may:

Revoke consent at any time by toggling off "AI Data Sharing" in Profile > Settings. Revoking consent will prevent new analyses but will not delete previously stored results.
Delete individual analyses from your history.
Delete your account and all associated data from the Profile screen.

4.5 Other Third Parties

Apple: Authentication only via Sign in with Apple. Apple receives standard sign-in information per their Privacy Policy. We only receive your name and email address with your consent.

Supabase: Our backend provider stores all your data (account, health profile, analyses, images) with encryption and row-level security ensuring only you can access your data. Supabase provides protections for user data that meet or exceed the standards described in this privacy policy.

5. AI-Generated Content

GutCheck uses artificial intelligence to analyze food and provide digestive health insights. AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions. The analysis is based on general guidelines and is NOT tailored to your individual medical history. Always verify AI-generated content and consult with a qualified healthcare provider for personalized medical advice.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase with row-level security policies. Food images are stored in private storage buckets accessible only to your account. All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your health information.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your personal data and analysis history
Delete your account and all associated data
Update your health profile and preferences at any time
Revoke consent for AI data sharing at any time via Profile > Settings
Request information about how your data is used by contacting us

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated data (profile, analyses, images) is permanently deleted. OpenAI does not retain any data after processing each analysis request.

9. Children's Privacy

GutCheck is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
